Hmmm, this is a good question!
I ship them as pale and red. But only under the condition that Eridan got over himself and did some actual communicating.
Because this is where we’re going to have to disagree about Feferi!
As they’re presented in canon, they aren’t really compatible. And this, to me, is due to several reasons. Firstly, while I do think Eridan has romantic feelings for Feferi and does care for her, he is absolute shit at expressing them. He postures and preens and hopes it’s impressive when actually it’s really irritating. Not only that, but he is mind-numbingly insecure, so instead of being straight with Feferi from the very beginning about his feelings, he sort of deals with them in a passive-aggressive fashion by just sort of vaguely griping about his romantic status and hoping Feferi will just read his mind about the whole situation.
Feferi isn’t a mind reader. And she went into the relationship thinking that it was only framed for the palest of purposes.
So for this reason all Eridan’s posturing, his griping, all of this she saw as “Welp, better put my moirail mitts on!” And she tried to pacify him. But that’s not what he wanted, he wanted a relationship. So all her work was basically a futile endeavor. Sweeps of futile endeavors. She was doing the best she could do in terms of pale romance, but that’s not what Eridan wanted. He got angry whenever she tried to talk sense into him or otherwise tried to keep him ‘in check.’
So by the time he was finally straight with her, it was too little, too late, and Feferi had had it up to the gills with never ever EVER being good enough for him. Which made him conversely not feel good enough for her.
IF THEY WOULD HAVE JUST COMMUNICATED THEY COULD’VE BEEN REALLY GREAT FOR EACH OTHER OH MY GOD MY WHOLE LIFE IS PAIN SHIPPING THAT PAIRING IS PAIN EVERYTHING IS PAIN.
So anyway. I am not saying you have to like Feferi or Erifef at all. Basically this whole manifesto is just me trying to explain myself and why I like that pairing and why it didn’t work in canon but it could work if actual communication happened.
